Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy is a state award given to graduating seniors who demonstrate proficiency in both English and one other language.

Students are not required to have completed a second language course through school.

If students speak a language at home or have learned a language through other means, they can take a test in that language.


Application Period: October 15 – December 6, 2024

To qualify, students must:

  • Be on track to graduate in May 2025
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher in their English classes
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the second language through a district-approved exam

Students who earn the Seal of Biliteracy will receive:

  • A medallion
  • A certificate
  • A seal on their diploma
  • A notation on their transcript
