HENDERSON FIRE DEPARTMENT AND LAS VEGAS FIRE AND RESCUE HOST THREE-DAY WORKSHOP FOR ASPIRING FEMALE FIREFIGHTERS
HENDERSON, NEV. (GVTV NEWS) – The Henderson Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire and Rescue are hosting their annual, “Women in the Fire Service” workshop from Oct. 8 to Oct. 10! Registration for the workshop opens, Sept. 8 at 8 a.m.

You must be 18 years or older to sign up, and it is completely free! This is a three-day workshop, and allows women to learn and get a first hand look at what being a fire fighter actually entails. This workshop will include, a “combination of physical agility exercises, hands-on experiences with firefighter apparatuses and classroom lectures.”

The types of training attendees will conduct at the Henderson Fire Training Center and Cashman Field:
Fire House Training – attendees will learn how to properly handle and maneuver a firehose
Extrications – attendees will use hand tools and other apparatuses for extrication exercises
Aerial Ladder Climb – attendees will climb a 100-foot aerial ladder
Physical Ability Tests – attendees will perform series of physical courses
Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Operations – attendees will learn about search and rescue missions for a downed firefighter

The “Women in the Fire Service” goal, is to partner the women of Nevada and the Henderson Fire Department, to help increase female recruitment and employment for the future!
